Medicine is funny. We became doctors largely because of individual success but to succeed as a physician, teamwork is critical.

Despite working on a team, many physician are lonely.

How often have you felt like you’re carrying the weight of your patients, your team, or even your entire department… alone?

This week’s blog dives into The Hidden Power of Medical Teamwork. We unpack why the “lone wolf” doctor ideal leads to burnout (and mistakes), how to build trust under pressure, and practical ways to grow teams where everyone thrives

Soft skills, like communication, emotional intelligence, and leadership, are just as critical as your clinical knowledge.

When your team is strong, you can finally focus on the parts of medicine that energize you.

Alone we can do so little;

together we can do so much.

Coach's Corner

1️⃣ Think of a recent team interaction—rounds, clinic, consults.

2️⃣ Ask yourself: Did I add clarity or confusion? What slowed us down—assumptions, silos, ego?

3️⃣ Picture one simple shift:

“Next time, what if I .........

  • shared my opinion
  • asked for input before speaking
  • celebrated a teammate

Write it down. One sentence is enough.

Small steps → big change.

When Winning Isn’t the Point (But You Win Anyway)
  This week, Katie Ledecky,  the most decorated female swimmer in history,  did the “impossible.” At 28, she won the 800-meter freestyle at the World Championships, outperforming 18-year-old phenom Summer McIntosh. This was her seventh world title in the event, and she’s the only woman to win the same individual race at four consecutive Olympics.   Most people don't pay attention to swimming o...
