Finding Your Middle Path: When Medicine Feels Like a Dead End
If you've stopped in the middle of your workday, and wondered "Is this all there is?" then this newsletter is for you. (If you haven't had this experience, enjoy the cute picture of Coop.)
In an article I contributed to KevinMD, I share a personal moment that many of us have experienced but few discuss openly: that stop in the middle of the sidewalk moment when you are not sure how you lost your way but can't imagine taking a different path.
The good news? You don't have to make an all-or-nothing choice.
There's a vast middle ground where fulfillment and a clinical career coexist. Use the button below to read the article and discover how to redesign your life without leaving your clinical training behind.

Take 10 minutes with pen and paper to answer these questions honestly:
- What still lights you up? Think about your last good day at the office. What made it fun? (Patient interactions? Teaching? Problem-solving?)
- What drains your energy? Be specific. Is it the EMR? Administrative burdens? The pace? Identify the true energy vampires and imagine a path without them. What does that path look like?
- What skills do you love to use? Intentionally using natural strengths is a quick path to fulfillment. What are yours? (Communication? Analysis? Leadership? Creativity?)
- If you had permission to experiment, what would you try first? Teaching? Writing? Consulting? Leadership? Name one small step you can take that leads towards a career that pays you to do what you love.
This isn't just journalingāit's the first step in Career Evolution. The path forward begins with clarity about what matters to you.
