Out of Office, But Not Out of Touch

Hi friend,

I’m sending this from the land of no schedules, no inbox, and definitely no pager. Yes, I’m on vacation, and yes, I’m still thinking about you.

This week’s newsletter is short and sweet, because even coaches need rest.

And honestly? That’s the point.

If taking time off feels “selfish” or “lazy”… that’s not your fault.

That’s the conditioning of a profession that often rewards overwork and punishes rest.

But I believe this with my whole heart:

You are not lazy for needing rest. You are human.

You don’t have to earn time off.  You just have to take it.

This blog post dives deeper into that truth:

Read: Doctors Need Vacation. Here’s Why (and How to Take One Without Guilt)

Rest is powerful. So is leadership.

If you want to grow as a leader without burning out check out this week’s new blog: Beyond Clinical Excellence: Essential Leadership Skills for the Modern Physician.

And here’s this week’s YouTube video, too:

“Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax.”

Coach's Corner

Imagine this: You have 7 days off. No inbox. No guilt. No catch-up work waiting when you get back.

What would you do with that time?

Now ask yourself:
  • What’s stopping me from actually doing that?
  • And what’s one boundary I could set this month to reclaim that space?

Ready to Build a Life That Works for You?

You don’t need to figure this out alone.

Warmly,

Ben

Unlock Better Teamwork with This Communication Framework
As physicians, we’re trained in anatomy, pharmacology, pathology. We also learn how to perform a physical exam and deliver bad news. But we are rarely trained to communicate with our peers. Yet, every part of our job depends on it. Misunderstood messages, unspoken frustrations, and clashing styles disrupt teams, regardless of clinical skills.  In this week’s blog, we explore how the DISC com...
Practicing Medicine is Supposed To Be Hard
How many times have you heard that statement (or something similar)? It makes me chuckle when I hear it because it is usually uttered by a baggy eyed, scrub clad, coffe drinking doctor in the back of a room full of physicians.  Newsflash: every physician knows medicine is challenging. That challenge is one of the reasons we applied to medical school. Physcians embrace challenge.  Here's the thi...
REDISCOVERING JOY: How To Find Fulfillment As A Physician
The daffodils are blooming. There is something about spring that makes me happy!  As a result, I have been thinking about joy. Specifically, the deep satisfaction that comes from a great day at work. While many of us experience moments of profound meaning in medicine, sustaining that sense of purpose throughout our careers takes intention and awareness. In this week's blog, I tackle joy and ...
